When we are talking about tail wagging, we often associate it with happiness. Unlike cat tail wagging in dogs, when your cat starts to twitch her tail, it could mean several things. In this case, we are going to focus on Siamese cat tail wagging and its meaning. What is your cat trying to tell you when she starts wagging her tail?

Do not get me wrong. siamese cats are probably the warmest breed towards their human owners. Tail wagging is usually an indication of some type of aggression. However, that is not all, it could also mean that your cat is happy! Well, without wasting much time, I am just going to dive in. I will help you understand the different meanings of Siamese cat tail wagging.

 

What does Siamese tail wagging indicate?

 

Greetings

At first, I honestly did not know that Siamese cats greet by wagging their tails. Well, since this behavior is highly associated with aggression, it was pretty scary whenever Rainbow approached me while wagging her tail. I always thought that she was upset with something. 

However, My siamese, Rainbow is kind and adorable. Sometimes, she will sit on my lap and start wagging her tail. she will even wrap it around my leg or arm. It is usually a form of greeting. Rainbow loves reciprocating the affection we offer her. 

However, do not assume that when you siamese friend wags her tail she is all good. Sometimes it could mean something different. Therefore, observing her body language is key to identifying what cat tail wagging could mean. For instance, when Rainbow wants to show affection towards me, she will bunt her head against me and even wag her tail. 

Tail wagging for greetings is a common practice among cats. Sometimes when two cats meet each other, you might notice a bit of tail wagging. It is a friendly gesture that sometimes includes tagging each other’s tail. 

 

Playful tail wagging

 

Cats also playfully wag their tails. Usually, she will exhibit this behavior when playing with toys. She might be lying down but when play becomes too exciting, there could be cat tail wagging. 

Rainbow, for instance, loves her mouse-like cat toy. She will play with it, as though she was hunting in the wild. Before I go on, let me just indicate that you will learn quite a lot when you observe your Siamese cat. 

One of the siamese cat qualities is their intelligence. It is a highly intelligent breed in the world. Therefore, they require a massive amount of stimulation. 

While playing with their favorite toys, it is normal to notice the siamese cat wagging her tail. However, once again, you must observe her body language to determine why she is wagging her tail. 

 

When she is focussed on something

 

I have seen it with Rainbow a couple of times. siamese cats are smart. This means that when they spot something interesting, they will try to figure it out. Now, Rainbow loves to sit by the window, staring at the outside. Whenever a cat or dog is passing by, she will react. She watches their every move closely, trying to figure them out. 

I have also caught her staring at the TV while she wagged her tail. As I have mentioned above, always make sure that she is not irritated before you approach. Observe your siamese cat body language cues such as ears, eyes and overall posture. 

Also, look in the direction that she is focused on. However, be careful as she could develop redirected aggression, especially from looking out the window. 

Even if it could be a friendly gesture, I still urge cat owners to be careful whenever a cat is wagging her tail. 

 

Aggressive behavior

 

This is the most common reason cats wag their tails. I already mentioned that in the introduction. Therefore, you should be careful whenever you spot your siamese cat wagging her tail. It is mostly a sign of irritation and aggression. 

Well, most people wonder why siamese cats get aggressive yet they are the most social cats. The truth is, we all have our limits, so do our cats. While you might be able to hide your anger, your cat won’t. Sometimes she might attack you out of nowhere. It is usually a result of redirected aggression. 

For instance, as I have repeatedly said, Siamese cats are an absolute delight. However, I would be lying if I said she doesn’t have those moments. She is quite short-tempered. For instance, she has scratched me at some point. And what did I do? I was petting her and she probably hated it. 

If you are petting your cat and she starts twitching her tail, I suggest you take that as a warning. Well, this could be accompanied by other signs of aggression. For instance, observe the position of her ears. If her ears face backward and she has started wagging her tail, leave her alone to settle. 

There is no specific cause of cat aggression. There are several types of aggression that I have outlined before. This, however, should not make afraid of siamese cats. They are affectionate, intelligent and playful. Always leave her to settle down before you approach her when she seems agitated. 

If she has her tail curling at the base, it means that she is completely pissed off. Some cats will even attack their owners’ ankles as you walk around the house. In most cases, it goes away after a few minutes. 

 

She is in pain

 

What can I say? Cats are very good at concealing the pain. You might not notice until it is severe, especially if you do not spend much time with you. Has your siamese cat started wagging her tail recently? Well, consider looking into it some more.

Now, it could be that your cat is suffering from a certain illness, or she is injured. If you pay close attention to her, you will notice changes in her behavior. A sick cat will be calm, sometimes develop excessive meowing as well as restlessness. 

If you suspect that your cat is ill, check with your vet. The vet will examine your cat and give you a conclusive diagnosis as well as treatment. 

 

Fear also leads to Siamese tail wagging

 

While we have domesticated Siamese cats since the 14th century, we cannot take away their animalistic instincts. Your cat will have a response to every situation. Cats try to make themselves look bigger when they feel cornered.
